The immensely anticipated London show is loosely based on a life saga of a Memphis DJ i.e. Disc jockey Dewey Phillips. The special things about him was that he was one of the white DJ’s first who played black music on the radio.

 The hugely successful broadway musical will come to Shaftesbury Theatre from 9th October. The immensely anticipated musical has won various awards and acclamations. The show is the winner of four Tony awards for Best Musical. It will star  soul diva Beverly Knight who is currently portraying the lead role in The Bodyguard.

 Memphis is set in the isolated Memphis Tennessee during the era of civil rights movement in 50s. The lead protagonist is an aspiring white DJ, Huey Calhom who loves rock and roll music. He falls madly in love with Felcia Farrell, talented black singer who is seeking for a big break.

 Huey wants to play this soulful music on air and makes Felicia a huge star. World can hear some great music when two loving souls unite. Their love has to face huge oppositions from their family and dear ones, as personal ambitions and prejudices collides to give both lovers huge trouble.

 Memphis features some great music and lyrics by David Bryan founding member of Bon Jovi, whereas a book and lyrics by Joe Dipietro. The show features  some great musical numbers such as “The Music of My Soul” “Ain’t Nothing but a Kiss” and “Love Will Stand When All Else Fails”. Before getting transferred to Shaftesbury, Memphis has enjoyed 3 years successful run on Broadway!
