Gypsy
The sensational latest production by
Chichester Festival Theatre, Gypsy which starred Imelda Staunton is all set to
make its entry to the Savoy Theatre in London Westend. The blockbuster Broadway
musical is a huge hit amongst the theatre lovers. The 1959 musical Gypsy has
music by Jule Styne and lyric by Stephen Sondheim.
Adapted from book by Arthur
Laurents, the story is loosely inspired from the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, who
was a popular striptease artist. The story of Gypsy revolves around ambitious
show biz mother mamma Rose who desperately attempts to make her daughters
stars.
Firstly, Baby June is the family
star, when she quits, her shy sister Baby Lousie becomes the centre of
attention. With immense encouragement of her mother, Louise went on becoming a
successful stripper. The hugely loved show Gypsy features some great musical
numbers such as “Everything’s Coming Up
Roses”, “Together (Wherever We Go)”, “Some People” and “Rose’s Turn”.
With the spectacular production of
Gypsy, there will be reunion of Imelda Staunton and director Jonanthan Kent. In
the hugely acclaimed musical, Sweeney Todd, he directed this stunning actress.
Stauton has performed brilliant role in Mike Leigh, Vera Drake. She won an
Oscar nomination and also BAFTA. In the blockbuster Harry Potter series, she
portrayed the role of evil Professor Dolores Umbridge.
