Kander and Ebb’s famous chartbusting musical Chicago is all set to return to the London stage, playing at the Phoenix Theatre. The show was last hosted at the London Westend Garrick Theatre in the year 2012. The spectacular production enjoyed blockbuster run of more than 15 years followed by number of national and international tours. The show has earned several prestigious awards like six Tony Awards, such as Best Musical Revival. The show was transferred to the London West End, and went on winning two Olivier Awards including Outstanding Musical Production.

The show, Chicago is adapted from the reporter Maureen Dallas Watkins’ 1926 play with the same name. The storyline of Chicago is based on true events and revolves around the club performers turned murderesses. The story is set during the era of 20’s against the backdrop of the gaudy nightclub scene, where Roxie Hart pulls a gun on her lover.

The key highlights of Chicago are the mesmerizing and thrilling score. The numbers are rendered by musical veterans Kander and Ebb, renowned for Cabaret and The Scottsboro Boys. Some of the chartbusting soundtracks are “All That Jazz”, “Funny Honey”, “When You’re Good to Mama”, “Razzle Dazzle” and “Hot Honey Rag”. John Kander’s musical composition and lyrics penned by Fred Ebb, with a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, all these factors merges to make a great show.
