New London
Theatre is currently running the award winning and blockbuster show, Show Boat
with packed houses! Daniel Evans’ Sheffield Crucible brilliant show has been
revived in London Westend after the closure of one of the longest running
London show, War Horse.
April 25th
marked the opening of Show Boat at the New London Theatre until 7th
January 2017. The show has undergone several revivals such at Adelphi Theatre
in the year 1971 with stunning 909 performances. In the year 1990, the show
came back to the London Palladium which was followed by Broadway transfer to
the Prince Edward in the year 1998.
The 1998
production was honoured with the prestigious Olivier award for Outstanding
Musical Production. In the year 2006, the show was hosted at the Royal Albert
Hall. David White of From Here to Eternity fame has directed as well as
musically supervised the blockbuster show. The show is set during the turn of
20th century in US and beautifully exhibits lives and loves of three
generations.
The show features some superb compositions
by Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern such as ‘Bill’, ‘Make Believe’, ‘Can’t
Help Lovin’ Dat Man’ and ‘Ol’ Man River. Alistair David of Sinatra at the
London Palladium fame has choreographed the show. The show has been designed by
Lez Brotherson, whereas lighting design by David Hersey and sound by Paul
Groothius. The two hours and twenty minutes show is a must watch for people of
all age groups,
