Carousel

London Coliseum is all set to host the hugely anticipated revival of Rodger and Hammerstein’s musical Carousel featuring Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins. The brand new London show is directed by Lonny Price. Interestingly, Carousel is the third production which has been presented at the popular London West End in wonderful association with ENO and the GradeLinnit Company.

The blockbuster 1945 musical, Carousel is from prolific composer and lyricist duo Rodgers and Hammerstein. They have also created the musical staples like The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Oklahoma! and The King and I. Carousel is an emotional saga of Billy Bigelow, who is a charming carousel barker. He returns to earth after fifteen years when he was caught up in an armed robbery and taking his own life.

Alfie Boe, musical superstar is all set to make returns to the West End to play Billy, opposite global mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins as Julie Jordan. In the UK tour, Royal Opera-trained tenor Boe is currently touring whereas Michael Ball, who has recently acted in Broadway’s Finding Neverland as J. M. Barrie.

The show is all set to mark its debut in April 2017 and will be playing for a strictly limited 41 performances. After the huge success of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and the recent Sunset Boulevard revival, featuring Glenn Close, this brand new London show is the second musical to be hosted at the London venue. It will be following Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell announced for 2017.

Katherine Jenkins is all set to make her theatre debut in Carousel. She is the two-time winner of the Classic Brit Awards Album of the Year for Second Nature and Living a Dream. She is also known across the globe for her wonderful acting prowess. She has been trained at the Royal Academy of Music.

Lonny Price will direct the show, who has earned huge acclamation with Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill and Company. The show is all set to make its opening on April 11th and plays until May 13th 2017. There will be a press night on April 7th 2017.
