                                      Theatre Royal Haymarket

In London, the opulent Theatre Royal Haymarket is the third oldest theatre. Since year1720, Theatre Royal Haymarket is hosting some of the brilliant shows of London. The first building of the theatre was named as the Little Theatre and was built by the carpenter named John Potter. In the history of London Theatre, it is one of the major venues and was the third theatre who gained a Royal Patent in the year 1766.

 Theatre was allowed for the performance of spoken word plays along with opera, musicals and concerts. This was followed by some of the successful seasons of the theatre. Its successful run was interrupted due to the reconstruction in the year 1820 which comprises of six unique Corinthian columns.

 Theatre Royal Haymarket has witnessed various productions during the 19th century which comprises of Gilbert and Sullivan operas. It was hosted premiere of Oscar Wilde’s comedy A Woman of No Importance and J M Barrie’s The Little Minister. This was the era when traditional pit section was abolished for stalls seating. This led to a small scale riot amongst the theatre audience.

 During the 20th century, host of plays have been staged such as classic works of the legendary playwrights Congreve, Webster and Shakespeare. Works of new authors have been also included such as John Gielgud and Ben Elton. The recent years have witnesses some spectacular productions and stage adaptation of the movie version such as When Harry Met Sally, Victoria Wood’s Acorn Antiques – The Musical, and hugely acclaimed Beckett’s Waiting for Godot with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Currently, smashing blockbuster One Man Two Guvnors are running with packed houses.

 Magnificent Theatre Royal Haymarket is positioned on the historic Haymarket Road which is just opposite Her Majesty’s Theatre. The theatre is located close to some of the popular tourist attractions such as Pall Mall and St. James Gate. Ideal venue for exploring some of the superb restaurants and has great accessibility via various modes of commutation such as tube, buses and taxis or cars.
