The initial plan was to name the theatre as the Central Theatre but later on was called the Queen’s Theatre, after the British royals, a popular trend those days.
The Queen’s Theatre was built as a twin to the Hicks Theatre and both these structures were designed by the notable theatre architect W.G.R. Sprague. The 1939 German bombings have destroyed the theatre badly and was closed for coming two decades for renovations.
