Apollo Victoria Theatre

Apollo Victoria Theatre made its debut in the year 1929 as state—of-the-art cinema to host the magic of talking pictures, which was a new technology at that time. Architect Ernest Walmsley Lewis designed the theatre in Art Deco Style. The building was opened as New Victoria Cinema and had the same name until 1975.

Later, theatre was re-opened as New Victoria Theatre. The new opening was celebrated with a concert and Shirley BAssey as the major act. Apollo Victoria Theatre hosted various famous musicals such as The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. Starlight EXPRESS was a blockbuster and ran for almost 18 years. The show was closed in the year 2002.

Another blockbuster musical Wicked made its brilliant opening at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in the year 2006. The show is adapted from the famous Gregory Maguire’s book which revolves around witches of Oz. The magnificent production went on winning several awards .

The blockbuster London show, Wicked is running with packed houses at the magnificent Apollo Victoria Theatre. The heart touching saga of friendship between two girls, Glinda and Elphaba is simply gripping. Based on the Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West', the show is a complete treat for the theatre lovers.

The multi-award winning London show has made an entry as the 10th longest running show of the London Westend and still going strong. Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz’s chartbusting songs make the show a must watch experience.

The untold saga of the Witches of Oz, Wicked is the winner of prestigious Morning Audience Award and has earlier won the Olivier Audience award in the year 2010. UK Executive Producer Michael McCabe quoted, “We are absolutely thrilled to have been honoured in this way by the theatregoing public. We'd like to thank everyone who voted for us and send a huge debt of gratitude to our extraordinary cast, musicians and company at the Apollo Victoria Theatre for their passionate and tireless commitment to Wicked.”

On 25th July 2015, the magnificent production of UK & Ireland Tour will play the final performance. Approximately 6.5 million people have enjoyed the London show with more than 3500 performances. All across the world, the show has been enjoyed by 47 million people in 13 countries and went on winning 100 awards.
