The King and I
Get ready for an exciting new
musical at the London Palladium! Bartlett Sher’s sensational revival of the
classic Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical The King and I comes is all set to
make its grand entry to the West End at the London Palladium. The show has been
a huge success on broadway and went on winning several awards and acclamations
for its chartbusting numbers and outstanding performance.
In the year 2000, The King and I was
hosted by the London Palladium featured Elaine Paige This will be the 65th
anniversary of the spectacular production of the original musical. The story of
The King and I is set against the backdrop of Bangkok in 1860’s Bangkok. The
brilliant classic show is a love saga or an unexpected romance between a
British schoolteacher, Anna, and the strict King of Siam. He requests Anna to teach
his children, but circumstances led them stood against each other. As Anna has
hidden feelings for the King, she finds herself divided amidst her love and
principles.
In the year 1953, the show was
premiered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and went on becoming one of the most
loved classics. The show features some chartbusting musical numbers “I Whistle
a Happy Tune”, “Getting to Know You”, “Something Wonderful” and “Shall We
Dance?”.
The role of Anna is portrayed by
the six-time Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara. She also won the prestigious award for
Best Lead Actress in a Musical in the Broadway production in 2015. Some of her popular works include The Pajama
Game, South Pacific and The Bridges of Madison County. The role of King is
portrayed by Ken Watanabe who made a very successful Broadway debut. He has
made some memorable movie appearances like include Inception, Batman Begins and
The Last Samurai.
The magnificent production of The
King and I is directed by Oslo fame, Bartlett Sher featuring set design by
Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald
Holder and sound design by Scott Legrer, whereas superb choreography by
Christopher Gattelli which is adapted from the original choreography by Jerome
Robbins.
The King and I will be running at
the West End’s London Palladium for a strictly limited season. The classic
musical will be one of the most acclaimed and highly anticipated musical. The
show will made its London debut from June 21st to August 4th 2018.
