During the packed performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time at London’s Apollo Theatre, a part of ceiling was collapsed which injured a few people. Owner of the theatre stated that incident as ‘shocking and upsetting’ and informed that investigation was going on. The play will resume its run at the Gielgud Theatre from June according to the sources.

During the accident eight members were badly hurt whereas 700 theatregoers and staff had been evacuated from the building of Apollo Theatre. This led to the emergency safety checks of every historic theatre in London Westend. For the time being, performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog has been suspended. Recently National Theatre made announcement regarding resuming of play at Gielgud Theatre from June 24, 2014.

For the fans of the show, here is some good news as they can book tickets from Friday, January 17. Gielgud Theatre is located near Apollo Theatre in West End. CEO of Nimax theatre, Nica Burns stated, “This was and is a deeply upsetting incident for everyone. We are sorry to lose such a wonderful production and wish it well.” All the ticket holders of Apollo theatre will be offered a refund or booking will get transferred to the Gielgud Theatre. National Theatre’s Executive Director, Nick Starr said, “It will be a real wrench to leave that beautiful theatre, but sadly the closure of the gallery to enable its restoration means that the show no longer works economically there.” The Curious Incident will mark its Broadway premier in New York in October 2014 as confirmed by National Theatre.

Billy Elliot Successful Voyage from Screen to Theatre

The mesmerizing London saga Billy Elliot has been adapted from a blockbuster movie. The hugely loved saga of a boy who is deeply in love with ballet has been presented onstage by creators Lee Hall and Elton John.

The heart touching saga of Billy Elliot is a complete audio visual treat for the theatre lovers. The gripping tale of a young boy love for ballet against the backdrop of striking miners has been beautifully presented with the addition of 15 original compositions from Billy Elliot The musical.

The miner community is presented in a much bigger way and strike’s effect on workers have a devastating presence. The Grandma has little to do in the movie, however her role has been given a lot in the theatrical musical and etched as a tap dancing diva with the famous Grandma’s Song.

The onstage presentation has to overcome various challenges for enlivening up Billy Elliot at the theatre. For instance, the child actors need to sing, dance and act well. Westend production needs four actors for rotating cast and they need to dance tap and ballet beautifully. On the other hand, in the movie version, the lead actor Jamie Bell need to dance ballet a little. There are a few differences in the movie version and the stage enactment. The show Billy Elliot still succeeds in touching the chords of heart.
