The blockbuster
London show, 1984 marked its return to the Playhouse theatre for 12 weeks only.
More than a quarter of a million theatre lovers have enjoyed the blockbuster
show. Adapted from a popular book, which was earlier considered to be impossible
to be adapted into a play, the show has been enjoyed a lot.
The blockbuster
show, 1984 has earlier enjoyed a successful run at the Almeida Theatre. The
show enjoyed great reviews, 5 stars and huge range of applauds from both the
classes as well as masses. On popular demand, the show is back with a bang.
The book has
become a part of our culture as it has left with legacies like Big Brother and
Thought Crime. The adaptation is quite interesting as it has also included
footnotes of the original novel. The blockbuster show beautifully presents
past, present and future.
The story of
1984 revolves around Winston, who is a citizen of Airstrip, once a province of
Oceania. This land has been under domineering regime and thought are considered
as crime. Winston meets the mysterious girl Julia and falls in love.
Duncan Macmillan
and Robert Icke have adapted the onstage production and take on the role of
adaptor and director. Earlier, Macmillan has penned some of the popular plays
Lungs and Monster. Robert Icke has also been an associate director at Almeida
and Headlong. Some of his previous works for Headlong are Romeo and Juliet and
Ella Hickson’s Boys.

Reid are also featuring in this wonderful multimedia spectacular along with
magnificent designing by Chloe Lamford. On 12th June 2015, 1984 made
its debut at the Playhouse Theatre till 5th September. The 1 hour
and 40 minutes show is recommended for 11+ kids.
