Get ready to
catch mesmerizing performance of Six-time Academy award nominee Glenn Close who
is all set to make her London Westend debut this year with blockbuster show,
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard. She is also set to reprise the role of
Norma Desmond after two decades. Earlier she portrayed this legendary
performance on Broadway.
Sunset Boulevard
is adapted from a popular Billy Wilder’s movie with the same name made in the
year 1950. The movie follows the actress Norma Desmond and her relationship
with Joe Gillis, down and out young screen writer. For a successful return to
silver screen of Norma, Joe agrees to assist her on a very poor script.
The story of
Sunset Boulevard revolves around depth of Norma’s illusions of opulence and
Joe. With the entry of another woman in the life of Joe, Norma becomes jealous.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s soothing music played by the orchestra of ENO led to some
of the heart touching composition such as ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’, ‘Every
Movie’s a Circus’, and Close’s anthem, ‘With One Look’.
In the year
1994, Close performed for the first time the role of Norma Desmond which gave
her huge appreciation and also earned prestigious Tony awards for Best Leading
Actress in a Musical. One of the media journal stated, “one of those legendary
performances people will be talking about years from now” – and the hype around
her return to the role proves this to be very much the case!”
Close has also
given some outstanding performances with movies and shows like Fatal
Attraction, The Stepford Wives, and the live-action version of 101 Dalmations
along with Broadway’s A Delicate Balance, Death and the Maiden and The Real
