the most popular tragic love saga of Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet at the
London Westend Garrick Theatre. The show is directed by Kenneth Branagh
starring Lily James and Richard Madden, also the stars of popular Disney live
action Cinderella. With 77 year old Derek Jacobu as the exciting as well as
unusual casting for the role Mercutio,
Romeo’s friend.
The classic
masterpiece was earlier published in the year 1597 and still one of the most
cherished and frequently performed plays. The story of Romeo and Juliet is set
against the backdrop of Verona featuring two warring families Montagues and
Capulets. However, love blossom between Romeo and Juliet, where former is son
of Montague family and latter is the daughter of Capulet family.
Juliet played by
Lily James has several notable works to her credits such as Downtown Abbey,
Vernon God Little, The Seagul and Othelli, whereas Richard Madden is known for
remarkable role in HBO hit series Game of Thrones. Meera Syal renowned for
Goodness Gracious Me portrays the role Nurse. Other cast members include Marisa
Berenson as Lady Capulet, Jack Colgrave Hirst as Benvolio, Tom Hanson as Paris,
Ansu Kabia as Tybalt, Chris Porter as Lord Montague, Zoe Rainey as Lady
Montague, Michael Rouse as Lord Capulet and Sam Valentine as Friar Laurence.
Additional cast members include Matthew Hawksley, Taylor James, Racheal Ofori,
Nikki Patel and Kathryn Wilder.
The Academy award
nominated and BAFTA award winning director is renowned for his great
directorial ventures which mainly include movie adaptations of Shakespeare’s
plays. The two hours and forty five minutes show may not be suitable for very
young kids. Romeo and Juliet is certainly one of the most tragic shows with
innumerable productions, still enchants the theatre lovers with its heart
touching saga.
